Course Rep Training

​Congratulations on your election as a Course Rep for 2020/21! Here at the Students' Union, we can't wait to work with you. 

Training for Undergraduate, PTY, and Postgraduate Taught Reps:

The start of our work together this year will begin at Course Rep Training. Due to restrictions on large gatherings, we will be hosting all Course Rep training online this year. Course Rep training will consist of three elements: 

1. Students' Union Course Rep Training

2. MySurrey Voice platform training

3. Completion form

Training is essential to help you know how to fulfil your responsibilities as a Course Rep, along with giving you vital information about how you can make the most of this opportunity to benefit your own development and employability!

Any Reps who do not complete training will not be eligible to have their role listed on their transcript, log volunteering hours, or enter Course Rep award schemes, and may have their details passed to their University department as having not completed training, which may prompt a re-election. 

1. Students' Union Course Rep Training

It is essential that you complete Course Rep Training with the Students' Union to be able to continue in your role. Our training covers life as a Course Rep at Surrey, including your core responsibilities, the meetings you'll need to attend, and all the ways you can benefit from taking on this role.

2. MySurrey Voice platform training

MySurrey Voice powered by Unitu is a new online space where students, Reps and staff can collectively raise, discuss and resolve feedback and issues. Because Unitu is a new tool, you must complete training on how to use the platform effectively. 

A. You must register and complete training hosted by Unitu here: unitu.co.uk/course/student-rep-training

B. You must complete your account activation on the MySurrey Voice platform here: surrey.unitu.co.uk

Unitu is structured as a discussion board, and you will be expected to respond to feedback and escalate it to staff, so you must monitor your discussion board carefully and know how to use it.

3. Completion form

As all Course Rep training is online for 2020, we are asking you to complete this form to confirm you have completed the two mandatory elements of Course Rep training.

Training for Postgraduate Research Reps:

The start of our work together this year will begin at Course Rep Training. Due to restrictions on large gatherings, we will be hosting all Course Rep training online this year. Course Rep training for PGRs consists of one core element: 

1. Students' Union Course Rep Training

Training is essential to help you know how to fulfil your responsibilities as a Course Rep, along with giving you vital information about how you can make the most of this opportunity to benefit your own development!

1. Students' Union Course Rep Training

It is essential that you complete Course Rep Training with the Students' Union to be able to continue in your role. Our training covers life as a PGR Course Rep at Surrey, including your core responsibilities, the meetings you'll need to attend, and all the ways you can benefit from taking on this role.

There is a distinct PGR Rep training presentation and quiz on SurreyLearn to capture the differences in PGR experiences and how your Rep role will benefit the PGR community.

FAQs:

I am an undergraduate Rep who has been a Course Rep before, do I need to complete training again?

Whilst we know you are experienced Course Rep, as we have the new MySurrey Voice platform this year, we have to ensure everyone is trained this year really carefully. So therefore, yes, you do need to complete Rep training, as it is an essential step and we do have some significant new content this year regarding the new MySurrey Voice platform in particular and how to use it. The training provided by Unitu is one you will need to pay close attention to in order to learn how to use the tool, but you may be able to complete the Students' Union presentation and test hosted on SurreyLearn quickly. 

Once you are confident with the material, you can take the test and fill in the completion form to confirm you've completed training for the year. Whilst we know you are experienced Course Rep, as we have the new MySurrey Voice platform this year, we have to ensure everyone is trained this year really carefully.
