Community Zone Updates
#SurreySings is a project to bring a community of singers together while we’re physically apart, and provide all students with a spirit lifting video. Students will individually record themselves singing and then the audio and video will be put all together to create a virtual choir of Surrey voices.
All students are welcome to take part- no prior experience or posh recording equipment required. For more information please take a look at here and if you have any questions, contact Izzy at ussu.vpcommunity@surrey.ac.uk.
Here's a selection of what your elected Community Zone Officers have been up to recently!
From February 2021:
- Launch of the Citizenship Award: Celebrating the contributions of students who help to make us a closer part of the community at Surrey.
- Students for Sensible Drug Policy: Zone members and the VP Community have been engaging with students and reps from both Surrey and other UK Universities - lobbying for fairer drug policies and greater harm reduction education. (@ssdp.surrey on Instagram)
- Introduced Sustainability Reps: Providing guidance on how to reduce our impact on the environment through Societies & Club Activity.
- RAG Chair New Motion Passed: Starting Sept. 2021, at least 1 of the charities which we support as a Union through RAG must be a local charity - providing a stronger link to between Students and the Local Community
Since lockdown began we have been focusing on online engagement and lifting community spirit:
- Virtual flirt! – stage crew and stag TV have been streaming club nights live from Rubix with resident DJ Karl Thomas and various guest DJs
- Rubix online has also participated in James Hype Streaming World Tour along with 17 venues worldwide and a number of other streaming events.
- Hari’s Challenge continues to run online every Tuesday
- RAG Taskmaster - Recreate your very own Taskmaster challenges whilst raising money for charity!
- Glitterbomb Livestream - The latest of our free livestreams from The Marquee, celebrating LGBTQ+ history month.
